CNC Automation Controls Engineer - Global Distributor / Installer

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Service & Applications Engineering, the CNC Automation Controls Engineer will design, program and integrate automated systems (robots, conveyors, loaders) with CNC machine tools to maximize manufacturing efficiency. Key duties include PLC programming, troubleshooting, machine-to-automation handshaking, electrical design and debugging automation solutions with Fanuc, Mitsubishi, Siemens, and Heidenhain CNC controls to ensure safe, high-speed production.
Duties / Responsibilities:
Design and develop control systems for CNC automated machinery and equipment;
Develop and implement automation interfaces for CNC machines, such as robotic loading/unloading and pallet systems;
Develop and troubleshoot ladder logic for PLCs to control robots, servos and vision systems;
Program and modify CNC parameters, including macro programming for Fanuc, Mitsubishi, Siemens, or Heidenhain controllers;
Create electrical schematics, drawings and bills of materials using AutoCAD;
Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical and software issues, specifically addressing I/O interfacing (Ethernet, Serial) and fieldbus issues;
Implement safety systems, including light curtains, safety PLCs, and emergency stop circuits;
Conduct system testing and validation procedures;
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements;
Develop and implement software for control systems;
Troubleshoot and optimize existing control systems;
Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications and operation manuals;
Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations;
Monitor system performance and make necessary adjustments;
Train personnel on the use and operation of control systems;
Perform regular system maintenance and updates;
Integrate new technologies into existing systems;
Participate in the commissioning and start-up of new equipment;
Provide technical support and expertise to other departments as needed;
Analyze data from control systems to improve processes and efficiency;
Collaborate with vendors and suppliers for equipment and software purchases;
Travel extensively to customer sites throughout the Continental U.S.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline;
Previous relevant experience within a manufacturing or industrial working environment;
Proficiency with CAD software for control system design;
Hands-on experience with robotics and automation;
Proficiency with PLC, DCS, SCADA and HMI systems and troubleshooting;
Proficiency in programming languages such as ladder logic, C, or Python;
Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and schematics
Proven experience in controls engineering, control system design and implementation;
Familiarity with industrial networking protocols and standards;
Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory compliance;
Experience with software development and testing methodologies;
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
Exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
Astute mathematical, analytical, time management, attention to detail, organizational, planning, effective multi-tasking, problem-solving, follow-through, customer service skills and ability to work to tight deadlines;
Ability to work effectively alone and within a collaborative team environment.
Physical ability to inspect and monitor equipment on-site at customer locations, when required.
Compensation:
$95K - $115K base salary DOE, for this full-time, exempt position.
Benefits:
80 hours of annual paid vacation during years 1-5 (pro-rated on start date) allocated in a lump sum after 90 days of employment and/or on January 1 thereafter;
40 hours of annual paid personal time, allotted in a lump sum after 90 days of employment and/or on January 1 thereafter;

Working Hours:
