Job Summary:

The Lowbed (Lowboy) Truck/Trailer Operator will safely load and secure heavy equipment such as cranes, bulldozers, front-end loaders, crusher equipment, excavators and other pieces of large industrial equipment, from one location to another.  The ideal candidate will possess excellent truck driving skills, but also be experienced in loading, unloading and securing the cargo, as the workflow dictates.

Duties / Responsibilities:

Drive / operate the lowbed/lowboy in performing assigned tasks related to heavy equipment (load and unload heavy equipment for transport, safely secure equipment to be transported per D.O.T. and company requirements;

Obtain proper operating permits from office staff and be able to present them when required to authorities;

Knowledge and compliance with all D.O.T. safety, health, environmental and company policies, procedures and requirements in connection with the operation of these truck/trailers;

Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure that tractor and trailer are in safe working order; perform daily checks of fluid levels on oil, water, fuel and ensure trailer/tractors are damage-free prior to operation;

Experience with airbrakes and standard transmission;

Ability to drive trucks equipped with various trailer combinations;

Ability to calculate weights of equipment with truck/trailer combination to ensure DOT permitting restrictions and guidelines are within parameters;

Contribute to planning and routing movement of equipment daily;

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED equivalent;

5-7 years of relevant experience operating a lowbed/lowboy truck/trailer;

Must possess valid CDL Class A License, with a clean and insurable driving record;

Knowledge of heavy equipment, safety and environmental regulations (OSHA and DOT);

Knowledge and experience in heavy equipment operation;

Ability to safely secure loads for transport;

Ability to lift at least 75 pounds in weight;

Possess basic mechanic skills;

Solid oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;

Ability and willingness to work required overtime and flexible work schedule;

Ability to work with minimal supervision; possess solid decision-making skills, exceptional problem-solving skills, possess exceptional time management, organizational skills and ability/willingness to change work schedule as needed;

Ability to meet specific DOT vision/health requirements and holder of DOT medical certification required. 

Working Hours:

Monday - Friday 

Compensation:

$25.00- $45.00 per hour DOE, for this full-time, non-exempt position. 

Benefits:

40 hours annually of paid vacation time, accrued at a rate of 0.77 weekly;

40 hours of paid sick time allotted after 90 days of employment;

Location:

On-site in San Luis Obispo and various client sites in the western U.S.
