Office Administrator - Santa Maria Cemetery District

Company Profile:

The District owns and operates the Cemetery as a Special District, in and for Santa Barbara County, State of California.  It is governed by the District policy, in accordance with sections of the California Health and Safety Code pertaining to Public Cemetery Districts. 

Job Summary:

Reporting to the District Manager, the Office Administrator will provide assistance to bereaved family members in the purchase of burial plots, graveside and burial services and administrative services to the District Cemetery Office. 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

Ability to effectively sell burial plots, graveside and burial services and interment rights to the public, with a high level of empathy, tact and diplomacy;

Ability to learn daily processes involving burial sales and operations; assist with planning burial interment services; maintain records and  burial and interments within the District’s sites / facilities ;

Provide exceptional customer service to families seeking the services of the Cemetery;

Answer incoming phone lines; provide assistance to the callers and/or field calls to the appropriate person;

Ability to work effectively with external vendors, contractors and District staff

Maintain meticulous and accurate records and log details in internal systems;

Perform bookkeeping duties

Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: 

Associate’s Degree in a business-related discipline, preferred;

At least 5 years of administrative support experience;

Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of products;

Possess effective sales skills;

Experience with a wide range of office equipment;

Exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;

Exceptional time management, Organizational, problem-solving, attention to detail, multi-tasking, critical thinking, follow-through and customer service skills;

Ability to maintain the highest level of ethical behavior in all matters and at all times;

Bilingual English/Spanish, a plus;

Holder of a valid CA driver’s license, with a clean driving record. 

Compensation:

$26.00 - $35.00 per hour DOE, for this full-time, non-exempt position 

Benefits: 

Medical, dental, vision paid 100% for employee; 75% paid for dependent medical premiums, plus 50% of any annual increase to premiums;

10 days of paid vacation, on an accrual basis in 1st 2 years of employment; increasing to 15 days in 3rd year and onward;

6 paid public holidays and 2 floating days;

Paid sick time on an accrued basis at 4 hours per month up to a maximum of 35 days;

Retirement plan through the Santa Barbara County Employment Retirement System. 

Working Hours:

8:00AM – 4:30 PM Monday - Friday
