Sr. Project Manager, Commercial Concrete/Framing - Construction

Grant Construction, Inc., a family-owned business, established in 1994, specializes in large-scale construction projects focusing on concrete, framing and tower cranes.  Our projects include  single-family, multi-family, mixed-use and commercial projects throughout California.  Employing approximately 450 people, our headquarters are in San Luis Obispo, with an additional office in Bakersfield.  

Job Summary: 

Reporting to the owner and executive management team, the Senior Concrete / Framing Project Manager will oversee all facets of our company’s large structural concrete projects (podium, parking structures, formwork, flatwork, tilt-up, CIP walls) lifecycle, from inception to completion.  This person will organize and oversee construction procedures and ensure they are completed in a timely and efficient manner.  The ideal candidate will manage budgets, schedules, quality, safety, regulatory issues, coordinate teams of architects, sub-contractors, field staff, handle handling contracts/procurement and ensure client satisfaction, while adhering and maintaining the highest company standards.   This role is a mix of office and regular site visits, with travel expected for projects outside of San Luis Obispo County. 

Duties / Responsibilities: 

Project Planning and Execution: 

Plan and coordinate all construction operations, including developing detailed project plans, schedules and resource allocation strategies;

Collaborate with engineers, architects and clients to define project scope and specifications;

Obtain permits and licenses from appropriate authorities;

Determine needed resources (manpower, equipment and materials) from start to finish, with attention to budgetary limitations;

Plan construction operations and schedule intermediate phases to ensure deadlines are met;

Acquire equipment and material and monitor stocks to ensure supplies are on hand and accounted for. 

Financial Management: 

Manage the project budget, track and control costs, prepare cost projections and processing  invoices, requisitions and change orders in a timely manner. 

Team Leadership and Supervision: 

Lead, mentor  and supervise project teams, including assistant project managers, superintendents, and subcontractors;

Allocate responsibilities, evaluating performance in an effort to foster a collaborative work environment.

Quality and Safety Assurance: 

Ensure adherence to all health and safety standards (including OSHA requirements) and quality specifications;

Conduct regular jobsite inspections and audits of formwork, shoring, rebar/post-tensioning installation and safety compliance;

Report any incidents in a timely manner to the superintendent or executive management. 

Contract and Risk Management: 

Negotiate contracts with external vendors and subcontractors to reach profitable agreements;

Obtain necessary permits and licenses and manage all project documentation;

Proactively identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies. 

Client and Stakeholder Relations: 

Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors and internal stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and managing expectations throughout the project;

Continually evaluate project progress and prepare detailed reports intermittently and when appropriate. 

Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, preferred, or related field or equivalent work experience;

PMP certification, preferred; At least 5 – 7 years of proven and successful experience in a similar managerial role focused on concrete and framing; Proficiency in construction-related software such as Procore, BlueBeam, MS Excel, is essential;

Proficiency in the MS Office suite of products, required;

Proficiency in BuilderTrend, Planswift, Revit, Primavera P6, MS Project software, a plus;

Proficiency in general construction means and methods, materials, industry standards and the ability to read and interpret complex plans and specifications; 

Strong analytical, mathematical and computer skills required;

Exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;

Astute leadership, time management, attention to detail, accuracy, organizational, planning, effective multi-tasking, problem-solving, analytical, follow-through and customer service skills;

Ability to work effectively alone and within a fast-paced, deadline-driven, collaborative team environment

Valid CA driver’s license, clean and insurable driving record and own vehicle required. 

Compensation:

$125K - $175K DOE, for this full-time, exempt position.

80 hours of paid vacation annually during years 0 – 4 and rising incrementally thereafter, on an accrual basis;

40 hours of standard CA paid sick time annually, allotted in a lump sum after 90 days of employment and at the 1st of the year thereafter;

Mileage reimbursement provided by employer.
