Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Consumer and Real Estate Lending, the Real Estate Underwriter will underwrite all residential and manufactured home loan applications for existing and new members within our field of membership.  The ideal candidate will be able to establish and maintain productive relationships with the real estate team and other departments within SCCCU and will receive, evaluate, underwrite and recommend loans for approval.   Additional responsibilities may also recommend and implement new procedures and policy updates, as needed, to ensure accurate and timely process and assume responsibility for department compliance with mortgage lending regulations.


Adhere to and align with SCCCU standards for underwriting; receive and review loan applications for completeness; evaluate financial condition of member/borrower by reviewing tax returns, bank statements and other related documentation;

Review loan applications to determine whether the loan is suitable for the applicant based on income, assets, credit history, and other factors.

Ensure that the property is suitable for the purpose stated in the application and loan terms are appropriate for the borrower’s ability to pay;

Review loan packages for compliance with federal regulations in connection with appraisals, credit standards and other requirements;

Order, review and verify information received from member/borrower and 3rd parties;

Document all communication within loan file; ensure timely assignment and decision on loan requests and follow-up as appropriate;

Maintain organized files and protect member information at all times;

Recommend approval / denial of each loan application as related to risk, in accordance with company policies and procedures;

Prepare required disclosure information to ensure  compliance with all regulations; determine appropriate documentation needed to satisfy internal conditions and regulatory requirements;

Assist servicing team members with preparation and review of all documents needed to close and fund  approved loans;

Stay current on residential lending regulations, in addition to SCCCU loan policy and guidelines; 

Complete all required annual regulatory and lending training assigned;

Assist and respond to audit and examination findings;

Learn and understand internal software applications, XP, Calyx and other mortgage-related packages;

All other duties assigned.


Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Finance, Real Estate, or similar discipline, plus 2 years’ experience in real estate loan underwriting for a credit union, bank, or mortgage related business, or combination of education and experience;

Experience / knowledge of manufactured home lending and underwriting, preferred, applicable local, state and federal lending regulations;

Familiarity and understanding of 3rd party data and reports, tax structures, title/escrow processes and related loan closing activities;

Astute oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;.

Strong mathematical acumen mandatory, with the ability to calculate discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages;

Exceptional organizational, time management, multi-tasking, attention to detail and follow-through skills;  

Must be fully bondable and possess active NMLS license.

Working Hours:

Standard hours are 8:30AM – 5:00PM Monday – Friday 


Competitive hourly pay rate for this full-time, non-exempt position.
