Job Summary: 

The Architectural Designer / Draftsperson you will play a pivotal role in the production of detailed construction drawings and the coordination of permitting processes for residential and commercial projects. This ideal candidate will be technically proficient, organized and proactive in managing documentation, have a strong background in producing construction drawings, expediting permits and understand building codes, to ensure smooth project approvals. 

Duties / Responsibilities:  

Construction Drawing Production: 

Prepare and develop comprehensive architectural drawings for permitting and construction, ensuring accuracy and adherence to industry standards;

Demonstrate expertise in drafting and detailing, focusing on constructability, material specifications and code compliance;

Ensure drawings are coordinated with structural, mechanical, electrical and other consultants;

Maintain organized project documentation, including revisions and updates. 

Permit Expediting & Agency Coordination: 

Manage the permit application and approval process, ensuring timely submissions and addressing agency comments efficiently;

Coordinate with city/county authorities and relevant agencies to track application progress, resubmissions and required documentation;

Stay current on San Luis Obispo County building codes, zoning regulations and permitting requirements, to proactively address compliance issues;

Serve as the primary point of contact for permitting authorities, advocating for project approvals. 

Project Coordination & Execution: 

Work closely with the General Contractor and project team, to ensure construction drawings align with field conditions and project goals;

Assist in product research and selection, ensuring materials and components meet design and regulatory standards;

Conduct site visits as needed to confirm project execution aligns with permit documents;

Provide mentorship and support to Assistant Architectural Designers. 

Qualifications: 

Minimum 6 years of experience in architectural design, with a focus on construction drawings and permitting;

Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, preferred;

Strong proficiency in CAD/drafting software; Revit and Vectorworks experience, a plus;

Experience with SketchUp and Microsoft Office Suite;

Extensive knowledge of California building codes and San Luis Obispo County permitting procedures;

Excellent technical detailing, problem-solving, and organizational skills;

Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines, while maintaining accuracy in drawings and documentation;

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with agencies and consultants. 

Compensation:

$85K - $106K DOE annual base salary for this full-time, exempt position. 

Benefits:

Health insurance coverage for employee; 

40 hours of annual paid time off during 1st year of employment on an accrual basis; increasing to 80 hours in 2nd – 4th years and 120 hours in year 5 and thereafter;

40 hours of paid sick time annually allotted in a lump sum on start/anniversary date);

9 paid public holidays annually. 

Working Hours:

8:00AM – 5:00PM Monday - Friday
